Toyota and Suzuki have joined hands to develop new cars, platforms and technology for the Indian market as well as global markets. Toyota launched the Glanza hatchback based on the Baleno in 2019 and now the company is preparing to launch a second product in the form of a re-badged Vitara Brezza as part of the partnership. The re-badged Vitara Brezza will be known as Toyota Urban Cruiser. The new SUV will be launched during August 2020. In addition, the joint venture (JV) of Toyota and Suzuki is working on 2 new products.
MPV to be based on front-wheel-drive platformThese two new products are the all-new mid-sized SUV and the all-new C-Segment MPV. Many reports have said that the new mid-sized SUV will be launched in the year 2022. While the sale of Toyota-C segment MPV will start in 2023. Both of these products will be manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi plant. The C-segment MPV will have two variants. At the same time, there will be a new mid-sized SUV for both Toyota and Maruti Suzuki. The C-segment MPV will be based on the front-wheel-drive platform.
Maruti will have a big role in the development of new productsThe C-segment MPV will be placed between the Ertiga based MPV and Innova Crysta. The new Toyota C-segment MPV will give a direct competition to the Mahindra Marazzo. Apart from this, Kia Motors, Hyundai and Tata Motors are also planning to enter the MPV segment. Maruti Suzuki will have a big role in the development of new products. In the new models, engine options can be taken from the Indo-Japanese brand. The model can get a 1.5-liter diesel engine, which Maruti wants to bring back to the market. Apart from this, Maruti Suzuki is also producing a new 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol engine. The MPV can get a 1.5-liter K15B petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system. The Maruti version of the C-segment MPV will be sold through the Nexa Premium dealership network.
