Shubhaman Gill’s half-century helped Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets. With this, Kolkata recorded its first victory in IPL 2020.
Hyderabad had batted first and challenged for 114 runs. Gill and Sunil Narine started Kolkata’s innings. Gill made a good start in the first over but Naren was dismissed for zero in the second over. After that Nitish Rana was dismissed for 26 off 13 balls. Dinesh Karthik, who replaced Rana, was dismissed for zero by Rashid Khan.
With Karthik’s wicket, Kolkata were 53 for three. But Gill saved Kolkata’s innings. He scored an unbeaten 70 off 62 balls. He hit 5 fours and 2 sixes. Eoin Morgan scored 42 not out.
Earlier, Hyderabad skipper David Warner decided to bat first after winning the toss. But they did not make a very satisfactory start. Johnny Bairstow was dismissed for five. Warner and Manish Pandya then tried to increase the score. But Warner was dismissed by Varun Chakraborty. Wriddhiman Saha then partnered with Pandya for a half-century. Six out for 30 runs. Pandya, meanwhile, completed a half-century.
