Kolkata Knight Riders beat Kings XI Punjab by 2 runs in the last match of the IPL 2020 IPL. Kolkata were 164 for six in their first innings. In return, Punjab managed to score 165 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.
After winning the toss, Kolkata skipper Dinesh Karthik decided to bat first. But they did not start well. The Punjab bowlers did not allow him to score. This allowed them to score only 60 runs in 10 overs. Kolkata also lost two wickets. Shubhaman Gill and Eoin Morgan both seemed to be playing big. But Morgan was dismissed for 24 runs. Then Dinesh Karthik came on the field. He gave the team a good score along with Gill. The duo completed half-centuries. Karthik had so far failed to score. He scored 50 off 22 balls. In the end, Kolkata scored a challenging 164 for 6 in 20 overs.
Punjab, which has lost four matches in a row, got off to a great start with Mayank Agarwal and skipper KL Rahul. The duo put on a century partnership for the first wicket. Mayank was dismissed for 56 runs. Subsequent Nicholas Puran was dismissed by Sunil Narine. Punjab controlled the match till the 17th over. But skipper KL Rahul was dismissed for 74 and the Kolkata bowlers made no mistake after that. In the last over, Punjab needed 14 runs to win and managed to score 12 runs.
Glenn Maxwell hit a four off the last ball when he needed seven runs. His six hooked just a few inches. If he had hit a six, the match would have gone into a super over. This is Punjab’s fifth defeat in a row. In terms of merit, they are in last place with 6 out of 7 defeats. With this victory, Kolkata has secured the third position in the table. KKR has won 4 out of 6 matches
